About Lessina

LESSINA MILANZI was born on August 24, 1988 to Thomas Milanzi and Judith Phiri. Her father died in 2002 and her mother died in April 2003. She was living on Seremani’s farm with her Uncle (her father’s brother) but her Aunt was not happy with her living there. She tried living with her grandmother, but it was too far to travel every day for school.

Lessina was referred to Eden Children’s Village by Miss Katswara, the Head Mistress at Doma Secondary School. Lessina’s Uncle refused to pay her school fees because he wants her to stay home to look after the smaller children. He is paying for her younger sister, Memory, to go to grade 1 at Doma Primary. She also has a little brother, Forium, who is 2 years old and lives with her grandmother.

Lessina was in Form 1 at Doma Secondary School. Lessina’s school reports show that as a second grader she was a very good student but her marks have been on a gradual decline since then. Lessina now attends Eden Christina Academy. She is making great progress with her academics. At the end of Term 2 2006 she had a 92.44% average. During her school holidays , Lesina participate in the Vocational training/work provided at Eden Children’s Village.

Lessina is active in the Doma Christian Fellowship. She was baptized on July 15, 2004.

Lessina participated in the Zimbabwe Student Covention in July 2007 and was nominated due to her running to attend the All Africa Student Convention in December 2007. She ran the 800 meter run, the 1600 m. relay, and the 400 m. relay. She was nominated to go to the states because of her 800 m. run and the 1600 m. relay. She also participated in knitting and small ensemble. She wants to add photography to these for the International Convention in May 2008. We are trusting God to provide the funds to make it possible for Lessina to attend the convention.

Lessina says she would like to be a nurse or a dentist in the future.
