About Lisben

LISBEN MASIYANHAU was born on May 9 1989 to Philo Masiyanhau and Yemurai Mufunga. Philo died in June 13, 1995 at the age of 40. He had been a truck driver. Yemurai died in November 2005.

Lisben and his older brother, Calvin, were admitted to the Student Assistance Program in Feb. 2004. In March 2004, their step-father threw them out. They were then put into Eden’s Community Based Care Program. They have several relatives living on Bahati Farm where they lived with their mother. Things deteriorated until finally the boys have been placed in Residential Care at Eden.

Lisben did fairly well on his grade 7 exams. However, in Form 1, in 2003, he did very poorly. Due to this, we required Lisben to repeat Form 1. He failed Form 1 a second time. When Eden Christian Academy opened in January 2005 Lisben transferred. He is now doing very well in his school work. The ACE Program used at Eden Christian Academy has allowed Lisben to excel in his academics.

Lisben represented Eden Christian Academy at the Zimbabwe Student Conventions in 2006 and 2007. He participated in mixed duet, large and small ensembles, soccer kick, six-a-side soccer, preaching, PACE bowl, 100 m dash, 400 m relay, and 800 m dash. Both years he did well and was nominated to attend the All Africa Student convention. In December 2007 at the All Africa Convention Lisben was nominated to attend the ACE International Student Convention due to his 800 m run. He also did well in preaching and soccer. He wants to add photography to his entries at the ISC. We are hoping to be able to send Lisben to the U.S. in May 2008 to compete.

When asked what he would like to do in the future, Lisben says he wants to be a flight attendant or a pilot. He would also be interested in pursuing a career as a nurse.
